We returned to Siena today, content just to wander the medieval streets, soak up life on the central piazza, il Campo, visit the Duomo, and climb the Faccitone for the panoramic views of the city and Tuscan countryside. Our only disappointment was that, with the day’s first photo op, Tom’s camera battery was dead (having just installed it) and the spare was back at home base. He’d had grand, Kodak-moment plans, but had to settle for whatever he could get from my camera. (We used to think that was pretty great, but that was before Canon produced bigger and better!)
Anyway, we had a lovely day and returned to our digs to enjoy happy hour al fresco, and an early dinner before returning to the city (10 minutes away) to sample the night-time scene. It’s much quieter after dark, the lighting is perfect, Piazza del Duomo is deserted, il Campo is lively with evening strollers and diners, and the narrow, dim, atmospheric medieval streets make it hard to believe it really is the 21st century beyond the walls.
We do love this city.

Mel forgot to mention the other "moment" when we (I) accidentally drove into the city, which is basically for pedestrians only. It made for some interesting exclamations from both occupants of our car and others. Just another of our Italian lessons.

Greetings from the cool country of Payson, AZ....United States of America.
We wish we were with you in your beautiful surroundings and are so happy that we can keep track of our worldly friends.
We traveled 77.2 miles to reach our destination. Happily the natives here speak English and sell wine. Perhaps not like the wine you two are drinking but okay for us unworldly travelers.
We are having a good time hanging out on the deck and looking forward to our next sleepover in the pine with Mary Ellen in attendance.
